Leprechaun Traps!

Ms. Leen’s 4th class thought about ways they could trap their own Leprechauns. They worked in teams, thinking about designs and trap doors to trick a Leprechaun. Leprechauns are known for being extremely clever, but Ms. Leen’s 4th class constructed some very good traps. Let’s see how they got on below.

Forest School

The very lucky children in 3rd class participate in Forest School every year in Barna Woods. Forest School helps the children develop a deep connection with nature while learning practical skills.

Learning to build shelters, tie knots, make nature crafts, forage, identify flora and fauna, and make fires safely are all part of our team building in the woods. Exploring and creativity instill curiosity and develop problem-solving skills. An awareness of caring for our environment and integrating mindfulness, song, and meditation are also integral parts of our Forest School sessions.

The children collaborate to build dens and play games, promoting teamwork and communication, while free play encourages creativity and resilience. Risk-taking in a controlled environment builds confidence and adaptability.

Forest School is a wonderful experience for our children and one that they will treasure for many years to come.

Thanks to Ms. Brenda Kenny, Ms. Siobhán Glynn, and Ms. Caithriona Power for organising all the wonderful activities in Barna Woods.

Saint Brigid

The children in Claddagh School celebrated the beginning of spring by making traditional Saint Brigid crosses and exploring the different designs used to make Saint Brigid crosses.

Data Delights

Seasonal Stem in the Claddagh School included many imaginative and original ideas. 4th class created artistic patterns and 2D shapes to decorate their reindeer and snowmen pictures. Junior infants used 3D shapes of strawberries and bananas to make edible Santa while learning to order from first to last. Ms. Bradshaw’s 3rd class explored mixing colours to decorate their falling snowflakes, and finally, Ms. Cullina’s and Ms. Bradshaw’s 3rd class teamed up for a Data Delights STEM project, which included learning Excel on our Google Chrome books.

Christmas Crafts

Ms. Lee asked the children in our school to help out with a craft and baking fair to raise money for Aoibheann’s Pink Tie charity. Aoibheann’s Pink Tie helps and offers practical support to the families of children diagnosed with cancer who are attending St. John’s Oncology Ward in Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital.

Ms. Cullina’s class thought of ways they could use their creativity to make lovely Christmas decorations to raise much-needed funds for this charity. The children spent time designing decorations and thinking about the materials they would need to make them.

The children had a wonderful time experimenting with materials, shapes, colours and ideas, working in teams, and individually creating their delightful decorations.

Valentine’s Day Marbled Hearts

Ms. Bradshaw’s and Ms. Cullina’s 3rd classes explored marbling using shaving foam and food colouring. The children worked in teams to create their own marbled hearts and hung their work on the classroom clothes line to dry. A lovely Valentine’s Day present for someone at home.
